OnePlus will release its first folding phone this year

OnePlus is experiencing a very eventful Mobile World Congress. In addition to unveiling its latest experimental phone with liquid cooling capabilities, the company has announced that its first foldable smartphone will be released in the second half of 2023. OnePlus has validated previous rumors that it is developing a foldable device comparable to Samsung’s offerings. At the OnePlus 11 event earlier this month, the company teased a mysterious Q3 2023 launch with what appeared to be folding device silhouettes in the backdrop. Still, it did not specify what it would be releasing.

Despite its affirmation, OnePlus remains tight-lipped regarding the specifics of its foldable device. XDA Developers reported in January that it discovered two trademark registrations for a OnePlus V Fold and a OnePlus V Flip with the China National Intellectual Property Administration. In today’s announcement, OnePlus only mentions one smartphone, so it is unclear whether it is currently developing two. Kinder Liu, President, and Chief Operating Officer of OnePlus said nothing at the event.

“Our first foldable smartphone will feature the distinctive OnePlus speed and fluidity. Regarding industrial design, mechanical technology, and other factors, it must be a premier phone that doesn’t settle because of its folding form. We intend to introduce a device that represents the pinnacle of foldable technology.”

The company promised to reveal additional information regarding its foldable device in the coming months. In addition, it disclosed its intentions to construct a more cohesive ecosystem within the next three to five years. According to the company, the ecosystem will enable OnePlus to offer seamless connectivity across its smartphones, tablets, wearables, and internet-of-things devices.
