Tesla announces a $300 charging mat for 3 devices

Don’t you remember the Apple AirPower mat? The device was announced in 2017, and it was supposed to be able to charge three devices at once. However, Apple never released it because of engineering problems. Now, Tesla is giving it a try with the Wireless Charging Platform, which was just announced.

Inside the aluminum case, which looks like a Cybertruck, is a wireless charging platform called FreePower made by a company called Aira. This is the same platform that the Nomad Base Station Pro and other multi-device charging mats use. This technology can quickly charge up to three devices with up to 15W. Users can supposedly just throw their devices on the Alcantara surface, and no matter where they land, they’ll get charged.

The Wireless Charging Platform costs $300 and gives you this ease of use.

Aira was started in 2017 and has so far raised $16 million. It is the company that made the platform for charging. Its most recent round of funding came from angel investors in 2019. Private investors like Jawad Ahsan, Lori Greiner, and Robert Herjavec led this round of funding. At the time, the company said it would use the money to expand beyond the consumer market and into the enterprise, automotive, and hospitality markets.
